Ocean Sciences invades Portland!

This weekend has been a VERY BUSY one at PDX.  The 2010 Ocean Sciences Meeting is being held all week at the Oregon Convention Center, and I've been a very busy bee helping attendees find their way to various hotels throughout the city, pointing out things to see, explaining the Free Rail Zone, and giving restaurant recommendations.

Because people are travelling from all over the globe for this meeting, I began to ask people where they are from.  I've been keeping a list, and so far I have met travelers from:
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Canada (Halifax and Victoria and Newfoundland, no less)
  • China
  • Croatia
  • England (including a professor from Cambridge!!  Geek out moment!)
  • Estonia
  • France
  • Germany
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Ireland (Go Irish!)
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Taiwan
  • Tunisia
  • Ukraine
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • California, Los Angeles
  • California, San Diego
  • California, San Francisco
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Minnesota
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New Orleans, LA
  • North Carolina
  • NYC, New York
  • Washington, D.C.
They are staying in nearly every hotel in the city, from the Jupiter Hotel to Hotel Modera to the Benson, and many more.  So if you see people walking around with poster tubes, say hello and welcome them to Portland!
